Privacy Policy

Student Business Hub (“we,” “us”) is an iPhone app that helps college students discover and run student businesses on a campus map. This policy explains what information the app collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email support@studentbusinesshub.com.

Information we collect

Your account. Your name, email address, and home campus. Optionally, a profile photo and your year and major. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from them (with Apple, you can choose to hide your email address).

What you post. Business listings you create, including their names, descriptions, photos, products and prices, hours, links, payment handles you choose to list (such as Venmo or Cash App), pickup address, the map location you choose for them, and updates you post.

Messages. Messages and photos you send to other users in the app, and pickup details shared in a conversation.

Ratings, tips, and reports. Star ratings and optional tips you leave for businesses, reports you send about businesses or people, and people you block.

Student verification (optional). If you verify as a student, you sign in to your school Google account and we check that its email ends in .edu. Your school email is never shown to other users.

Notifications (optional). If you turn on notifications, we store a push address for your phone so we can tell you about new messages and updates from businesses you saved.

Basic usage. Which campus maps you open, and counts of how often each business page is viewed, its links are tapped, and it receives new messages. Business view and tap counts are totals and aren’t tied to you.

Favorites and settings. Businesses you save as favorites, and whether you’ve opted out of promotional emails.

We don’t collect your device’s location, contacts, or advertising identifiers, and we don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

How we use it

  • To run the app: showing businesses on campus maps, delivering messages, saving your favorites, and showing business owners how their pages are doing.
  • To keep the app safe: reviewing reports, enforcing our Terms of Use, and preventing abuse.
  • To understand and improve the app, using overall numbers such as how many students use it at each school.
  • To email you about your account and, unless you opt out, send occasional news and promotions about Student Business Hub.
  • If you turn them on, to send push notifications about new messages and updates from businesses you saved. You can turn them off anytime in your iPhone’s Settings.

What other people can see

  • Signed-in users can see your name, profile photo, year and major, any businesses you list (including payment handles and updates you add to them), and a Verified Student badge if you verified.
  • Anyone with a business’s share link can see its name, main photo, tagline, and rating on our website, without signing in.
  • Messages, and photos sent in messages, are visible only to the people in the conversation.
  • Tips are shown without your name, and other users can’t see who left which rating.
  • Reports are private. The business or person you report isn’t told who reported them.
  • Profile and business photos are stored at long, random web addresses. Anyone who has a photo’s address can view it, but those addresses only appear to people who can see that content.

Promotional emails

We may send occasional news and promotions to the email address on your account. To stop them, turn off Promotional emails in the app’s Settings, or reply “UNSUBSCRIBE” to any promotional email. Once you opt out, your address is removed from our mailing list. You’ll still receive important emails about your account.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We share it only:

  • With service providers that run the app for us: Supabase hosts our database, sign-in, and photo storage. If you sign in with Google or Apple, they handle that sign-in. Maps are displayed using Apple Maps. Notifications are delivered through Expo and Apple’s notification service. Our website is hosted by Netlify.
  • When required by law, or to protect the safety of our users or others.

Keeping and deleting your information

We keep your information while your account is open. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your profile, your businesses, your messages, your ratings and tips, and the photos you uploaded. If you’d like us to remove anything else, email support@studentbusinesshub.com and we’ll take care of it.

Security

Information is sent between the app and our servers over encrypted connections, and access to it is limited by strict permissions. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

Children

Student Business Hub is made for college students and isn’t directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If the changes are significant, we’ll let you know in the app or by email.
